5-Hour Essentials
Self-study learners will gain access to the learner-level course materials and facilitator course materials.
Description
This course provides a concise, high-impact introduction to perinatal mental health for clinicians seeking a focused foundation in the field. Beginning with an overview of the reproductive life cycle, the course moves quickly into practical clinical application — covering how to screen and effectively engage with perinatal patients, and how to approach diagnosis and treatment in this specialized context. A dedicated module addresses the nuanced risk-risk framework essential to informed decision-making, helping clinicians weigh the risks of untreated psychiatric illness against the risks of treatment during pregnancy and postpartum. The course concludes with guidance on determining patient risk and managing psychiatric emergencies in the perinatal setting. Designed to be completed in five hours, this course equips clinicians with the core knowledge and clinical tools needed to confidently support the mental health of patients throughout the perinatal period.
Pregnancy and Postpartum
Self-study learners will gain access to the learner-level course materials and facilitator course materials.
Description
This course offers a thorough, clinically grounded examination of psychiatric illness and mental health across the perinatal period — from conception through the postpartum months. Learners will explore epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of the full spectrum of perinatal mental health conditions, including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, postpartum psychosis, primary psychotic disorders, ADHD, PTSD, and substance use disorders. The course also addresses the profound relational dimensions of this period, including infant mental health and the ways early caregiving experiences shape long-term development. Beyond clinical diagnosis and treatment, modules examine the most challenging and sensitive aspects of perinatal psychiatry: infertility, pregnancy loss, pregnancy termination, and the rare but critical phenomena of neonaticide and infanticide. Together, these modules prepare clinicians to navigate the full complexity of perinatal mental health with evidence-based knowledge, clinical skills, and compassionate, patient-centered care.
Women’s Health Across the Lifespan
Self-study learners will gain access to the learner-level course materials and facilitator course materials.
Description
This course provides a comprehensive, evidence-based exploration of women’s mental and reproductive health from adolescence through menopause. Beginning with the foundational science of the reproductive life cycle — including the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, perimenopause, contraception, and lactation — the course builds toward clinical application across a range of conditions. Learners will examine premenstrual mood syndromes, the psychiatric dimensions of the menopausal transition, and the complex interplay between eating disorders and the female reproductive cycle. The course also addresses the broader social and structural determinants of health, with dedicated attention to perinatal mental health disparities in the United States and the unique challenges faced by migrant, immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking populations during the perinatal period. Together, these modules equip clinicians and learners with the knowledge to provide informed, equitable, and whole-person care to women across every stage of life.
