Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in pregnancy and postpartum.

Perinatal Bipolar Disorder and Postpartum Psychosis

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of bipolar affective illness in pregnancy and postpartum.

Perinatal Depressive Disorders

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of depressive disorders in pregnancy and postpartum, with an emphasis on learning to read the literature concerning risks of untreated illness vs. risks of medication.

Eating Disorders in the Perinatal Period

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of eating disorders and the interaction of eating disorders with the female reproductive cycle.

Infant Mental Health

During the perinatal period, not only are women undergoing a significant developmental transition, but their infants are also developing rapidly within a relational context. An infant’s early life experiences shape their brain development and lay the foundation for long-term cognitive, behavioral, and health impacts.

Neonaticide-Infanticide

Homicide is a leading cause of death for infants and children. In some cases, mothers who commit infanticide or neonaticide were experiencing mental illness at the time, and psychiatrists may have important roles in prevention.

Perinatal Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder in pregnancy and postpartum.

Primary Psychotic Disorders

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of primary psychotic disorders in pregnancy and postpartum. This includes both pre-existing disorders and those that may arise for the first time in pregnancy, such as pseudocyesis.

Substance Use Disorders in the Perinatal Period

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of substance use disorders in pregnancy and postpartum.

Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in the Perinatal Period

This unit covers the myriad effects of trauma history on psychiatric illness in the perinatal period, including but not limited to PTSD.

Infertility and Pregnancy Loss

This unit covers the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of emotional distress and psychiatric symptoms associated with infertility and reproductive loss.

Pregnancy Termination/Abortion

The goal of this module is to utilize a clinical case presentation to solidify the learner’s knowledge of critical issues surrounding pregnancy termination, abortion, and mental health.
